Choose to Be Successful Instead of Mediocre

Posted by Mark Triplett on Tue, Sep 20, 2016 @ 05:09 PM

What separates great achievers from those who just wish for success? Why does one star athlete excel, while tens of thousands of other sports enthusiasts watch in awe and disbelief?  Why do only a handful of business people reach levels of wealth and notoriety, when so many others struggle to survive?

Stop Discrediting Others

Many attribute someone else’s success to superiority. "They must be special," or "They must be more talented than everyone else," or "They have better genetics." Others may discredit the success by attributing it to luck or special privilege. "They must have had some connections, or help along the way," or “They are just luckier than the rest of us.” These statements are your ego trying to justify lack of drive and success by discrediting someone else’s hard work toward achievement.

It's About Your Choices

Your success or failure comes down to your choices. The person you are right now is the result of the choices you have made since you entered this world. Its not the big choices that have the greatest impact on your life, your business, you success. It’s not grand decisions like who to marry, where to live, or where to go to school. It’s the little choices, which seem insignificant, that have the greatest impact on your life as they compound overtime.

Consistent Discipline

What seems like overnight success for a star athlete, actor, or business guru is actually a result of small choices built up over time. The time in the gym, field or hard-court running drills to exhaustion, the endless hours of mundane rehearsal in front of a mirror, or the years of professional development suddenly appear to the rest of us as instant success. What we don’t see are all of the tedious, unsexy, uninspiring minutes, hours, days, months, and years that it took to reach their success.

Most people won’t reach super stardom levels of success because they lack the discipline to consistently execute the simple easy to do actions to get there. You see, the simple easy-to-do actions are just as easy not to do. Its easy to eat an apple a day, and drink one sugary beverage less. Its easy to make one more business call per day, or hold one more appointment. It’s also just as easy not to.

Some may give it a go, and commit for a short period of time. “I’ll try it once, to see if it works.”  They get bored or frustrated after a limited commitment because they don’t see immediate results. Then it becomes easier to go back to their old routine and validate their ego’s belief that success is not for them.

Don't Wait for Opportunities

Perhaps others don’t know what to do or where to start and never get going. They become paralyzed by the shear size of the commitment to succeed. They are waiting for someone to come along to launch their success. What if that person never shows up?

Not you. You’re not like these others. You want success. You have the discipline, and drive. You are committed to achieving your goals. You want to create the vision for your life and business.

Where will you start? When will you start? Perhaps the answer is right in front of you. Success and achievement is all about choices. Choose to make the right ones now.
